Theory and practice of trading in the age of digitalization

The retail industry is faced with the challenge of adapting to developments in e-commerce, online marketing and digital transformation along the entire value chain. Digitalization not only affects the marketing side, but also purchasing and logistics. The increasing networking and automation of all company areas is leading to increasing complexity of processes. Companies that want to be successful not only have to promote digitalization internally, but also have to design the interfaces with suppliers and service providers in the best possible way.

Digitalization has revolutionized retail and will continue to do so. Students majoring in “Digital Retail Management” acquire knowledge of the essential facets of digital business models as part of a retail-oriented business administration course. These include, for example, the design of the supply chain, e-fulfillment, web analytics or trading platforms.

Study profile

The dual course of study combines theoretical knowledge and practical application. Students at LYTD® Fashion learn to combine course content with practical tasks in the company. A high level of transfer performance is required for the quick solution of complex problems in operational practice.

Study content The Digital Retail Management major offers a retail-oriented business administration course as a basis as well as in-depth knowledge of the essential facets of digital business models.

Operational practice Our students work actively during the three-month practical phase: They go through different departments and get to know our products and operational processes. You work on current projects or implement your own projects.

Key qualifications and soft skills In addition to the subject-specific curriculum, the university offers seminars that, on the one hand, promote key qualifications such as presentation skills, negotiation and teamwork and, on the other hand, deal with special topics (data analytics, agility, specific case studies).

Business administration as a basis At the core of the dual study program at the DHBW Faculty of Economics is always solid business studies: Students deal with all areas of business administration such as marketing, cost accounting and employee and company management, and get to know the relevant areas of law and relevant parts of economics , acquire practice-relevant statistical and business-mathematical skills and train in scientific methodology.
